In 2024, approximately 771,480 individuals experienced homelessness in the U.S., marking an 18% increase from the previous year, with significant rises in family homelessness and unsheltered populations.

 

Key Statistics

Total Homelessness: The number of people experiencing homelessness reached 771,480 on a single night in 2024, which translates to about 23 out of every 10,000 people in the U.S..

 

Increase in Homelessness: This figure represents an 18% increase from 2023, with nearly 150,000 children experiencing homelessness, reflecting a 33% increase in this demographic. 

 

Family Homelessness: There was a 39% increase in homelessness among families with children, indicating a significant rise in this vulnerable group. 

 

Unsheltered Individuals: Approximately 36% of homeless individuals were living in places not meant for human habitation, highlighting ongoing challenges in providing adequate emergency housing.
